Vanguard PinVanguard PlaqueVanguard recognition, gold pin and walnut plaque

The prestigious Vanguard recognizes the fraternal group of one thousand who contribute $1,000 (USD) to our vision for the World Culture Center at the Melvin Jones Lions International Memorial. As an individually endowed fellowship, funds provided with the Vanguard are used for capital investment in engineering and design for a comprehensive Center Pavilion and museum facility.

The extended vision with Vanguard funds is to rebuild and restore the military outpost that was Fort Thomas as it existed when Melvin Jones was born and raised (1879). Further, the envisioned "America Pavilion" will honor the Native Indian Nations of the Americas (particularly those of the Arizona Territory) — telling their history and sharing their rich cultures with historical accuracy. In the "Museum Facility," displays and exhibits will showcase the historical memorabilia of Lions from throughout the world, with a focus on the varied community service projects and activities of Lions in action.

The Vanguard vision extends to a destination facility that will recognize individual Lions who have had a significant impact on the development and enrichment of human-kind throughout history, and that provides a conference and hospitality center for tourism and conference meetings. The goal is to create a unique tourist destination site attracting families and students for a cutting edge and first class educational opportunity.

The limited edition Memorial Challenge Coin is a distinct way to challenge fellow Lions or supporters of your Club to honor the vision and mission of Melvin Jones, quoted as saying, "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else." The 1.625" diameter heavyweight gold-tone coin features the likeness of Melvin Jones on one side and the embossed image of the gleaming white spire with color enamel inlays representing the Arizona hills and flag sunrise of Fort Thomas.

Funds received from the purchase of the Coin go towards continuing expansion of the Memorial Museum, its curated collections, exhibits and displays.

The Memorial Challenge Coin makes a great recognition gift to a new Lions member challenging him or her to follow in the Jones' footsteps of thinking globally while acting locally in service to community. In the spirit of military and first-responder traditions of fidelity, the coin provides a constant reminder the "We Serve."
